editing

Yesterdya we started editing our video. Our camera didnt have an SD card so we uploaded the footage to the computer from Emi's i phone. We found out computer and then we tried to load pinnacle studios. Unfortunately it wouldn't load so we tried anlther computer. This computer also wouldn't load so we asked Ms Catz for help. We tried restarting the computer but that didn't work. We Then saw that the computer needed to update. After about five minutes the update finished. Then we tried again and it still didn't work. By then class was over so we will have to finish editing on Friday.

If we were able to edit we would have made a lot of progess. We would have started by cutting the useless footage. Then we would have made a title screen for our song. Then we would have added a splitscreen of me and Luc playing our instruments. We were also thunking about changing the lighting. This would make it look like a bar setting. We also might add a voiceover for each lf us. This would make the video seem more geniune. On Friday we will make these changes. And we will have to focus because it is also due Friday.

In conclusion, our final product will be ready by friday. We will add cut footage. We will add split screena. Will create a title screen. And we will add voiceovers to make it seem Genuine. With these edits our video will have high quality and look proffssional. We weren't able to edit yesterday because of our computers. In order to ensure this doesn't happen again we will choose computer 5. Computer 5 is thr first computer we used and is now fully updated. We are very excited to finishing this project. And I look forward to working on Friday.

Filming 2

On Friday me and Emileano went to our friend Luc's house to film. I arrived at twelve and Emileano arrived at about 1:00. We didn't have a memory card so we had to use Luc's I phone. Luc's phone camera actually had better quality then the camera so this worked out well. Due to us having no memeory card we did not use the camera or tri-pod that day. We filmed in the dining room and Luc's room the filming process took about an hour. I used a button down shirt that Emi brought. For instruments we used Luc's keyboard and harmonica. I played the harmonica, Luc played the keyboard and Emi filmed. We all played an importamt role.

The first scene we filmed was the bar scene where me and Luc used water and tapped our glasses and drank. Then we filmes us dancing to the song with our glasses. This scene took a few tries. When we did this scene me and Luc both had hats to give a cheery mood. Then we filmed a close up of Luc playing the keyboard with me in the background playing the harmonica. After this we filmed a close up of me playing the harmonica. These scenes will take up most of our video and probably took about a minute to film. We have plenty of footage to work with and cut when we edit. We had the song playing as we were filming. And me and luc tried to play the song with our instruments when filming.

In the end of the day we were satisfied with our work. We looked over our footage one last time. We didn't need to re film anything. We spent the rest of the time planning for our editing. We looked at footage that we would cut and talked about the order we would place each scene in. Then we skatboarded for a little bit. Until Emi was picked up. Then I was picked up. Filming the video was a fun process. I look forward to submitting the video.

Filming

Me and emi were unable to film because we did not rent out equipment. We were unable to rent out equipment because all the items were already checked out. This did not affect our filming because we remted it out today. We will film on Friday. We will film at our friend Luc's house. We have rented out all the necessary equipment. We have a tripod amd cameram I checked to make sure that all the components were there before I left. Me and emi will film a music video for piano man by Billy Joel. We already have a plan for filming.

Our plan for filming is to arrive at our friend's house on friday at 12:00 pm. We will then use a keyboard to replicate a piano playing. One of us will also use a harmonica because this instrument is promiment in the song. The filming process will likely take over an hour so we are prepared for that and have made sure the battery is at full charge. We will use soda and a glass to replicate the tonic and gin in the song. We will have several scenes of Luc playing his piano at different angles. Me and Emi will be in the background playing the harmonica. We will use the tripod to have proffesional shots at different angles. If the tripod does not work Emi will hold the camera. We may need to take several takes.

In conclusion me, Emi, and Luc will meet at Luc's house on Friday. I currently have the camera and Emi has the tripod. I will charge the camera on wednesday and thursday to make sure it has full charge. The tri pod will be useful when it comes to taking shots at different angles. Our video will show Luc playing the piano at different angles. There will be different shots where me and Emi play the harmonica and damce. We will use soda to replicate tonic and gin. We will also be cautios when handling the equipment because we have to pay for it if it breaks. This will be an enjoyable process. I look forward to filming.

Storyboard

Our story board take place in a bar where the pianist is our friend Luc Poakeart and harmonica player Andrew Cambron. They both play the song Piano Man and the people of the bar get into the song and start singing along while drinking their drinks.

C- Costumes are going to be a button up and a tie with a blazer for the people on stage (Luc and Andrew) and something more casual for the people at the bar. Their costume isn't going to be very prominent but it can still be seen.

L- The lighting is relatively dark but with lighting on whats important. The lighting focuses on Luc and Andrew and when the bar-goers are in the scene the light focuses on them as well, so the background isn't very bright.

A- The only acting is coming from the people from the bar who have to act like their into the song and really enjoying it. Things like nodding their heads and body movement can give that feeling.

M- There isn't going to be any make-up in our video because there isn't really a need for it. We might change the peoples hair and add gel but besides that there won't be much makeup.

P- The props will be cups on the table and the piano and the harmonica. The people in our video will be in constant contact with these items. They'll be using them throughout the entire video.

S- The literal setting is going to be Luc's house in the living room; however, the setting we are trying to create is a loud bar setting where there's a lot of people and it's really upbeat and lively.

Sound- The sounds are going to include not only the song but clanking of cups and plates. There will also be a quiet murmur of the people in the bar. This sound is going to come with the sound. The actual music video already includes these background noises. All we have to do is match it up.

Editing- Editing won't be as prominent in the video as it was in the Gatorade commercial. All we are going to add are transitions and the sound of the music. The transitions are going to be fade ins and fade outs to make the transition between every scene smoother.

Angles, Movement, and Shots- There are going to be lots of all of these. The main one is going to be a close up shot catching the torso and head of the subject. Things like the bar-goers and Luc when he's sitting at the piano are things that are going to be caught by the close-up shot. Also panning the camera around the table and the piano so that the camera doesn't miss anything and makes the table and piano bigger than it is. There will also be long shots to catch the entire piano and Andrew all in the same frame to show who exactly is on the stage.

In conclusion, our video is going to be similar to the original music video, but were going to have our own twist to it. This is going to be one of my favorite projects. Im really looking forward to it.

planning blog

Todsy we planned outhow we will film our music video. We will film the video at our friend's house. We will film indoors.

For safety we will have Luc's father within walking distance of us while we are filming. We will also keep ours phoned charged so that we can call 911 if we get injured. But we will be sure to exercise caution so this doesn't happen.

For props we will use a variety of instruments and other utensils. We will use Luc's keyboard and harmonica for instruments. And we will use cups if we need to have a drinking seen.

Yesterday was an A day so we could not work on our video. Today tuesday is a B so we are able to work. Today we are planning out how we will film. We are storyboarding our video so we know how each scene will play out. Our video has to be at least one minute and each box is 6 seconds so we are using 12 boxes. Tommorow is a B so we won't be able to work on our video but on thursday we will look at videos in our song's genre to have a better idea of what to do in our video. Then nextweek during our thanksgiving break which will be from the 27th to the 29th we will film our video. Then when we come back to school on monday we will edit our video. We will add a title screen and will cut out any unnesecary footage. Then on December 6th we will submit our video after adding all our final touches and rendering our video.

To recap this process we will first plan out our video. It will be filmed at our friend's house. We will have our phones fully charged as a safety precaution. We will use cups for drinking scenes. And for instruments we will use a keyboard and harmonica. We will look at music videos of this genre to know how to format our video. We will then make a storyboard. We will film the video during thanksgiving break. We will edit our video when we get back to school. We will cut out unnesecary footage and a title screen when we edit. We will submit our video on December 6th. I look forward to filming our video.

Research Thing

In my last project I worked on a Gatorade commercial. We chose three different Gatorade products to advertise. If I could do it again I would have paid more attention to the editing lesson. I also would have used my time more effectively. Overall I enjoyed this project. I am now working a music video for the song piano man by Billy Joel. I look forward to working on this.

Our song is going to be Piano Man by Billy Joel. This song falls into the pop category and rightfully so. It's really upbeat and lively and a really feel-good song. The process of choosing this song wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be. We started off with Don't Stop Me Now by Queen but came to the conclusion that we'd rather prefer Piano Man, after going through many different music videos and seeing all the things that would be necessary for each one. Neither me or Andrew really minded the song that we chose it was just the matter of choosing it. There was no argument or serious discussion about the song we wanted. We just kept listening to song that sounded like our original one by Queens. Soon as we were scrolling past, Andrew recommended Piano Man and once we saw the music video we knew that was the song we wanted to do.

This song is full of close ups and medium shots to capture not only Billy Joel but also the piano. They used close ups to capture certain scenes in the video that are mentioned in the song. For example, Billy Joel mentioned a man in love with his Tonic and Gin and then the camera zoomed in and had a focus shot on the glass of alcohol. There aren't any establishing shots and hardly any long shots. There also isn't a lot of camera movement. They usually hold the camera still to stay focused on what on the scene. The lighting is bright but at the same time not. What I mean by that is you see the singers or actors wearing black or dark clothing and have relatively dark backgrounds but they have lots of lights and make the scene brighter. The costumes as I mentioned are usually black clothing or really plain clothing or dull clothing. In this music in particular the props aren't anything special, they usually match the song, like I mentioned earlier about the Tonic and Gin. They don't usually have much makeup,it's just the usual stuff to make their face look brighter. One thing that's really important to realize is that pop from a time period like Billy Joel is different from say newer artists like Ariana Grande. The acting also isn't as prominent as it is in other genres. They do simple things like drinking something our pretending to be talking but nothing extra-ordinary.

Creative Critical Reflection

Name: Andrew Cambron_______________________

Creative Critical Reflection
  1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?
My product which is Gatorade is filmed with a genre of action. It is made for athletes to use when they are in the field. It represents the social issue of gender equality by being available to athletes of any gender.

2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?
My product engages its target audience of athletes by giving them the promise of more energy and better hydration when they are performing their sport. Gatorade is distributed in several retail stores worldwide and can also be found in the concession stands of sporting events.

  1. How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
At the beginning of the project I had never filmed a professional video and had little knowledge on how to do so. As I continued to work on this project, I learned how to use a video camera, how to position it at certain angles, and how to place it on a tri-pod. I also improved my skills in editing. I learned how to add transitions, how to add a split screen, and how to record and add a voiceover to a video.

  1. How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?

In this project I hardware such as a camera to film my video, a tripod to hold the camera, an SD card to hold the footage taken by the camera, a USB to transfer the footage from the SD card to the computer, and a computer to use software to edit my video. I used software such as an editing platform to edit the video and add effects like split screens, voice overs and transitions. I also used the internet to submit my video to my teacher.

This week my group and I started editing our commercial. We weren't able to edit it last week because the computers weren't functioning properly and two of our group members weren't present. We started off our editing by moving into a quiet room and recording our voice overs. This took several tries because each of our lines had to be at least six seconds. We were each given a line to say and we had to speak with a certain tone and pace. Finally in the end we all repeated one phrase very slowly. Once we recorded our lines we placed the SD card into a USB. After doing this we transferred the information in the SD card into the computer. We were now able to place the audio in certain scenes of the commercial. This would lead us to the next strep in the editing process.

After recording our voice overs we decided to continue recording in the smaller room. We did this because there weren't as many distractions than if we worked in the main class room. We started by creating our title slide. This slide had a black background with Gatorade written in all caps and in orange. It took us some time to find the right font and color. In the end we found by looking up the Gatorade font. After this we wanted to add a split screen with a title of a trait that an athlete represents and the athlete. It took us some time to figure out how to create a split screen but in the end it came out well. Next we worked on our transitions for each slide. Luckily our editing platform had a wide variety of transitions to choose from.

Unfortunately we didn't have enough time to finish editing so on Friday we will continue and most likely finish editing our video. We still need to finish our transitions and add any other special effects to our commercial. We will also have to cut out some footage to make sure our commercial is 30 seconds long. Fortunately we have a lot of footage so we can cut out anything that we don't need or is low quality. We might also edit the brightness of certain clips to make it appear as though it was filmed at night. This could help with the overall message that Gatorade helps energize athletes. In the end will check to make sure that our video runs smoothly and then submit it to our teacher. Then our video will eventually be viewed by Cambridge and scored. I am confident that my group and I have put in the effort to get a decent score. And I look forward to finishing the editing process.

Editting Blog

Today I was not able to be with my group to edit our commercial. I was at district finals for swimming. Attendance was mandatory for this event so I had to miss class. But I did not waste my time there because our school was first place for the boys. The event lasted three hours and we competed with four other schools. Now any swimmer who swam faster than a certain time will go to Regionals. And then the fastest athletes on the team will go to state championships. After state championships the season is officially over. Then our team will have a banquet where awards are given out to athletes for certain achievements. Then we will repeat this process next year.

Unfortunately while I was at districts my group wasn't able to work on our film because the computers weren't functioning properly. We will receive new computers next week because of this. If the computers were functioning properly we most likely would have finished the editing process. We would have added captions on certain slides. We also would have created a title slide. In addition we would  have adjusted the lighting in our video to make certain parts of it appear to have been filmed at night. We also would have used a split screen to show a trait next to each athlete to show what they represent. In our final slide would have added the Gatorade logo. Next class I plan on adding these features to the commercial. It will be a fun process.

The next time we will work on this will be Monday. This will be our second period. Our footage has already been uploaded onto the computer so we just have to open the program and start editing. We will have to refer to our notes that we took on editing a few classes ago. This will tell us how to use the programs features and edit our video. It also gives us tips on what we should edit on our video. But I don't think that the process will be extremely difficult. We will probably finish it before the end of the period. We will have a final product to submit to Cambridge. I look forward to working on our commercial.

First day of filming Blog

Yesterday I went down to the track field to film my commercial. Before I went down to film I grabbed a camera and a tripod that was provided by the school. Then I went to the bathroom to change into athletic clothes because I was filming a Gatorade commercial. I changed into sneakers, red gym shorts, and a white t shirt. When I got to the track field a lot of people were also walking in that area so I had to wait before I could film. While I was waiting I inserted the SD card into the camera and then I attached the camera to the tripod and made sure that it was secure. After I secured the camera to the tripod I made sure all of the Gatorade products were there. For the commercial I used Gatorade chewables, protein bars, and bottles. After that I made sure that I had all of the sports equipment that I needed. For this commercial we were using a football. By then the track field was clear enough to begin filming.

First I filmed a sprinter running and then drinking a Gatorade bottle. For this we first filmed Katherine going into a sprinting position. We did this by using a low angle and a wide shot. After a few shots I had a final shot. Next I was filmed preparing to and then performing push ups. First I was filmed performing several stretches to get prepared. Then I was filmed performing a push up and then taking a break to eat a Gatorade chewable. My part was filmed in the grass that the track field surrounded. We also had to take time to find which areas had the best lighting. During our next class we will finish filming.

Before we left we also filmed Amy doing a handstand in the grass. Then we went back to the class to dump our data. When I arrived I had to wait for an open computer because we arrived later than some of the other groups. Then we took the SD card out of the camera and transferred the data to a USB. Then I plugged the USB into the computer and opened a new file to place my footage. I then opened the file to make sure that the data was there and took the USB out of the computer. It is always advisable to dump your footage otherwise it could get deleted off the SD card. After this I returned the SD card, camera and tripod to their compartments. I think that by next class we will have finished the filming stage of the commercial. I can then start the editing process to create the final product.

Storyboard, Camera Movement, and Angles

Today in media we worked on our storyboard for our commercial. In a storyboard each slide is 6 seconds. And our commercial must be 30 seconds so we need 5 slides. We draw what is going to happen in each set of 6 seconds for each slide. Below the slide there are lines for us to explain what is going on. We will write what the person in the slide is doing and then we write the camera angles and movement. There are different types of camera movement. The main ones that we will use are pan and tilt. The angles that we will use are low angles, high angle, and medium angle. The shots the we will use are long shot, medium shot, medium long shot, and wide shot.

In our video our storyboard begins with a wide shot of a girl in a sprinting position. Our next slide will show a boy with a football in his hands in a fetal position. Our third slide will show a boy stretching his arms he is about to perform push-ups. We will then show the three athletes consuming different Gatorade products in a split screen. We will then use another split screen with a voice over saying the three traits that each athlete represents. Finally we will have our last slide be a title screen with the word Gatorade. Our first 18 seconds will show the three athletes preparing for there activity and the last three will show how they represent the Gatorade brand. We will use a variety of camera angles, movements and shots. Gatorade is a sports drink and this is why we our actors are performing athletic activities. We will start filming in two days.

Our angles include low and medium. We will use wide shots, medium wide shots, long shots, and an establishing shot. I look forward to starting this film.

Editing Lesson Blog

In order to film we will be given cameras. These cameras will come fully charged and will have a strap for our hand. They take a while to charge but hold their charge for a while. These cameras turn on the moment they are opened and turn off when closed.

Along with the camera we will also recieve a tri - pod. The camera is attached to the tri pod with a loose screw. This will make the camera unstable which is why it can be tightened with a knob that is on the camera. This will make our video look more proffesional. The tri- pod also comes with a crank that can elevate the camera. in order to remove the camera from the tri - pod you simply unscrew it from the tru pod. It is unadvisable to carry the tripod when it is open or when the camera is attatched to it.

In order to edit our footagw we need to make a folder for it on our desktop. We move the footage from our sd card to the folder. In order to find the pictures that we took we go to DCIM on our desktop. If our photos aren't on DCIM we can go to AVCHD, click on private then stream and all the photos that have been taken will be there but they won't be organized. You should always see if your photos are on DCIM before checking AVCHD. The process is called dumping

In order to edit our footage we log onto pinnacle studios and click on edit. If there is a tutorial video on there then we can click on new project. We then import our footage from the computer desktop to pinnacle studios. After this all the raw footage can be seen on the top of the page. Then we can start editing.

Now there are certain terms related to this process that we learned. There are 3 tracks were we place our media in. AV track 1 is for titles. AV track 2 is for film. And AV track 3 is for music.  In order to split a film clip you hit the razor blade button. The term exporting is taking footage out of pinnacle studios and importing is putting it into pinnacle studios

This is an overview of the process for making our commercial. When we are finished we will render our footage and make sure that it all runs smoothly I look forward to making this commericial.

Planning Blog for Gatorade Commercial

Today in media we made a blog on blogger pertaining to the planning of our commercial. We will be working on this commercial next week. We made a script for our commercial along with a back up plan and a list of our props. We will make this commercial  in the track field. We look forward to working on the commercial.

PROPS
For props, athletes will each have different items in their surroundings that contribute to their training/exercise. General props that could be used in any situation would include towels used to wipe off sweat, a watch to time speed, a bag that would be assumed to contain sports equipment, and any actual equipment that would be needed to clearly demonstrate the message. After brainstorming for how our Gatorade commercial should be set up, my group has decided that there would be different elements that would accentuate the concept that Gatorade improves athletic performance and refreshes those who consume it. Gatorade is a company that produces multiple products and we’d like to promote three of them to highlight variety. Furthermore, the essential props needed for the commercial would be the three different Gatorade products being the sports drink, chewables, and an energy bar that each athlete would eat after their exercise.

COSTUMES
As for costumes, the three athletes presented would be wearing fitness clothing that allows them to be comfortable as they train. The clothing is meant to be conventional to show that anyone is able to exercise without feeling pressurized into fitting into any “stereotypes” where clothes need to fit specific measurements, or shoes need to have a brand, or that without talent, one cannot succeed. The diverse clothing is meant to stimulate that message and produce a feeling of inclusion that would be remembered when one thinks of Gatorade. Additionally, vibrant colors may be used to contrast the athlete from the environment and ensure that he/she stands out.

SCHEDULE
  • 10/11/2019- We created the planning blog pertaining to everything that we need to have in the commercial, such as props and costumes as well as timing and places in which we are going to shoot the film.
  • 10/15/2019- We are going to create the storyboard for our commercial, finish it that day and get it approved as well. From there, we want to move on and potentially start recording.
  • 10/22/2019- We are going to start recording on this day. We are going to make our way to the track and begin shooting our scenes with our actors, props, and costumes.
  • 10/24/2019- We are going to edit our video and make our blog explaining our editing process and what each member did to contribute to that process.

LOCATION LIST
This commercial is to be filmed during 9:20am to 10:50am where sunlight is normally plentiful and strong, which would allow for better clarity. All athletes would be exercising on the track. One would be running, another would be throwing a football, and another would be doing doing a push up. The person who is running will be doing so on the actual track. The person throwing a football will be doing so in the center of the football field. The person doing the push ups will be doing so on the track near the shed.

BACK-UP PLAN
In the case where the weather of the day that the commercial is being filmed is stormy, the scenes would most likely be filmed on concrete under metal roofs where rain is not a conflict. However, if weather permits and there is light rain, the athletes can proceed to train on the track. Many times, when commercials are filmed under tough circumstances, such as rain, it motivates the audience and shows them that one can persist even the strongest of forces.

Research Conventions and Codes

The commercial that our group decided to do is for the promotion of Gatorade. In most Gatorade commercials, you have athletes training or doing sports. The Gatorade usually refreshes the athlete and is implied to influence his/her good performance after a long and extraneous workout. The Gatorade bottle is usually full and can be multiple different colors depending on what they're trying to sell. The bottle is normally wet from condensation to add to the feeling of refreshment to the product. Gatorade also sells energy bars and chewables, which provides a variety of products for athletes to choose from.
Usually, a Gatorade commercial has bright lighting if it's outside or dim lighting if it's in a gym to highlight the athlete and the product. It's either in a gymnasium or outside on a field. There is usually a crowd in the background making noise to add to the environment of the scene. The athlete takes a break from his exercise to consume the product and then comes back into his exercise renewed and refreshed or consumes Gatorade after a won competition to provide a reasoning for a great performance.
Overall, the main message of any Gatorade commercial is to ensure that the audience is aware that Gatorade can essentially better any athletic accomplishment.

Conventions of Gatorade commercials:
  • Athletes
  • Workout materials
  • Track
  • Gym
  • Bright lighting
  • Dim lighting

My name is Andrew and I am a sophomore at FLHS. I am currently enrolled in the pre - law magnet at FLHS but I am also going to receive my AICE diploma. My classes are Executive Internship, AICE media studies, AICE thinking skills, AICE English, algebra 2, chemistry and AICE european history. In Executive Internship we do mick trials so we can gain practical knowledge on how to be lawyers and witnesses. In AICE media we learn about the film making process and the techniques that are used to make movies. In AICE thinking skills we learn how to approach problems that require us to use critical thinking skills. In AICE English we learn how to properly read a story. In algebra 2 we learn new math concepts. In chemistry we learn about how mass reacts with other atoms. In European history we learn about the major historical events of Europe.

I am a member of the swim team at FLHS and after school I usually go to swim practice. On Tuesdays however, I go to environmental club where we help keep our school clean by cleaning out the recycling bins around our school. After I am finished with either practice or environmental club I take the activity bus home, I usually get home at around 6:00 pm. When swim season ends I join the water polo team where I will be a starting player and a team captain. One of my friends is also in the process of starting a club to help out people in the Bahamas who were affected by hurricane Dorian and I will join this club when it gets approved.

I listen to a wide variety of music and my favorite artists are Juice wrld, Kodak Black, J Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Owl City, Billy Joel, and Ed Sheeran. My favorite TV shows are family guy, That 70's show and South Park. And my favorite book series is the Harry Potter series. When I graduate high school I plan on going to college to become a lawyer in civil law.
